PhD position Drones against Climate Change
October 26 2021
ACT is moving forward with drones for environmental monitoring; the University of Southampton is opening a PhD position within the SotonUAV research team.
We are pleased to progress in reaching our goal to provide innovative tools to help the river-dwellers community monitor their environment. This year the Amazon faced, once again, extreme climate events with the worst floods registered in the region since records began. Many villages on the bank of the Negro have been affected by the floods, and the damages to structures and crops are considerable. The unpredictability of weather patterns urges us to develop new methodologies and systems to monitor those changes in the field.
Since 2019 we have been working with the University of Southampton to develop a project and UAV to mitigate forest fires in the Amazon region. Dr Mario Ferraro is opening a position in the SotonUAV research team to work on the DACC project. An exciting role to work in a cross-disciplinary team with experiences in the UK and in Brazil.
